The current City Council is composed of seven members, four of whom represent municipal wardsPDF Document or districts, and three who are elected at-large by all Ogden voters. Each Council representative's term of office is four years. Terms are staggered, with four being elected at one time while three are elected two years later and at the same time as the Mayor. All municipal elections are held in odd numbered years and are considered non-partisan.


Duties of City Council Members

Members of the Ogden City Council carry out the following duties:

  1. Approving City policies and ordinances
  2. Approving City general plans
  3. Approving property zoning/rezoning, annexations, vacations, and interlocal agreements
  4. Determining appropriate levels of City service
  5. Approving annual City budgets
  6. Providing advice and consent for appointments of City positions
  7. Conducting reviews of City administrative actions
  8. Participating on several boards and committees, including both the RDA and MBA boards


Duties of the Chair and Vice Chair

A Council Chair is elected by City Council members to carry out the following duties:

  1. Presiding at all City Council meetings
  2. Signing of all ordinances and resolutions
  3. Facilitating communication between City administration and Council members
  4. Signing all correspondence which is representative of the Council as a whole

A Vice Chair is also elected and will perform these duties during the absence of the Chair.
