Expect Some Road Closures and Delays for Tour of Utah August 7 and 9Thursday, July 26, 2012 Many spectators will come out to support and cheer for the world’s best cyclists who will compete in Ogden on August 7 and 9. For the safety of the athletes and the spectators, some roads in the downtown Ogden area will be closed and still other roads along the 131- and 85-mile courses will have rolling closures in place to allow for the peloton to pass through. Motorists should prepare for delays and detours to accommodate this great event being hosted in the greater Ogden area. |
The world’s best professional cyclists will gather in Ogden for the 2012 Tour of Utah. This six-day race is dubbed “America’s Toughest Stage Race™” and it begins with Stage 1 in downtown Ogden on Historic 25th Street at 10:15am on Tuesday, August 7.
While cyclists loop a 131.6-mile course through Ogden Canyon, Trapper’s Loop, North Ogden Pass, and sprint to a finish in downtown Ogden, the public can participate in a series of activities including a mayoral community fun ride, bike jousting, a bike rodeo, a helmet giveaway for children, and the GOAL Foundation Kid’s Zone activity area. Athletes are expected to finish by 4pm and awards will be presented at the Ogden Amphitheater. At 5pm the Historic 25th Street Association will host Worldwide on H25, a celebration that begins with a parade of nations, has international dancers performing in the streets, and brings twenty local independent restaurants together in one locale to serve authentic international cuisine.
Just two days later cyclists begin Stage 3 at 12:15pm in front of the Salomon Center in the Junction. The route will take athletes through town, climbing North Ogden Divide, and past Snowbasin Resort.
On both August 7 and again on August 9, motorists should be prepared for rolling closures along the race route with expected delays of 30 to 45 minutes. Some hard closures will be in effect in downtown Ogden, but all businesses will remain open. Please slow down, watch for spectators, and be patient while cyclists make their way through the race routes. Find more info at www.tourofutah.com.
