ON TRAIL OF AUTO REPORTED STOLEN, OFFICER INJURED
Motorcycle Officer Al. Smalley Suffers Broken Leg in Collision With Auto of Paul Mark.
A collision between an automobile driven by Paul Mark, local shoemaker and a police motorcycle, driven by Officer Albert Smalley, in which the officer was injured occurred yesterday afternoon near the mouth of the Ogden Canyon at the sharp turn in the road west of the concrete bridge, near the Sanitarium. According to Mark he suddenly came upon the motorcycle just at the turn and did not have time to swerve aside and avoid the crash. The motorcyclist was thrown from the machine.
Officer Smalley sustained a fracture of the left leg between the knee and the thigh and was carried to the Dee Hospital by Will Purdy, who happened along in his car.
According to another account, Mark became confused when the machines were about to pass and turned in the wrong direction, and then back again. The motorcycle struck the car on the rear fender damaging it.
The front wheel of the motorcycle was smashed.
Mark left his car standing and reported the matter to the sheriff's office. Accompanied by Deputies Richard Wooten and Joseph Chadwick an investigation was made and measurements were taken.
Smalley was on the trail of the automobile of Stanley Dee, reported stolen, when the accident occurred.
