Responsibilities :

Ogden City Corporation recruits year round for the position of Police Officer.  Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, possess, or the ability to obtain by time of written testing, the National Peace Officer Selection Certificate.  Possession of a P.O.S.T. Category I or II Certification or an associates degree with the emphasis in law enforcement with a minor that would enhance the officer’s social awareness is desired.  Testing is conducted when needed and applicants are notified by mail.  We hire approximately 5 to 10 applicants per year.

Ogden City Police Officers work 10 hour days, 40 hours per week.  There are six shifts that cover the city 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Police Officers respond to everything from serious felony assaults to citizen assists and traffic enforcement to keeping the peace.  Police Officers undergo continual training to refresh their skills.  There are also opportunities to advance.

Qualifications :

Candidates who successfully complete a written test, oral interview, behavioral assessment and physical agility test are placed on an eligibility list which is valid for one year.  As openings occur, names are pulled off the list for consideration for employment.  Newly hired Police Officers must complete a probationary period.

Starting salary is $2,910 per month.  Ogden City Police Officers participate in the Utah Retirement Systems and may retire at 50% of their final average salary at twenty years of service and 2% for each year after that up to 30 years.
