Community Service Officers (CSO's) perform a variety of duties both at the front desk and out on the street. Duties at the front desk include handling telephone calls, walk-ins, and pending calls from the dispatch. The CSO’s handle calls that are not “in progress". The calls handled at the desk and in the field are very similar. The desk handles vehicle burglaries, vehicle thefts, theft, frauds, forgery’s, assaults that occurred prior, criminal mischief, harassment/telephone harassment, and custodial interferences.
Reports that can be made over the phone follow these requirements:
No injury or imminent danger of injury
An officer is not needed to be physically present at the scene
No suspects or witnesses need immediate interview
The citizen is receptive to accepting police service by telephone
Field officers handle the same calls the desk officers do but include traffic accidents, abandoned vehicles, impound vehicles, VIN inspections, and parking problems. These officers also render assistance on fire and/or crime scenes.
The CSO’s also take fingerprints
Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 11:00am and 2:00pm – 4:00pm.
The front desk is open 8:00am – 10:00pm seven days a week.
