Ogden City Police Department

Child Abuse and Neglect Investigation Unit

Working primarily at the Children's Justice Center (CJC), the unit maintain close ties with the Division of Child and Family Services and the Utah Attorney General's Office.  The unit, staffed by two full-time detectives, conducts suspect, victim and witness interviews involving cases from child rape through child abuse and neglect.  The Children's Justice Center is a state-of-the-art facility used for investigating cases involving children.

The Children's Justice Center (CJC) was established to provide a place where a child victim can be interviewed and examined in a safe environment.

Law enforcement and medical professionals apply a team approach to investigations.  Minimizing trauma and re-victimization of the child are the key elements in this team approach.  Trained interviewers interview the victim, while the interview is observed by law enforcement and other team members.  A videotape is made of the interview that can be used as evidence in court.  A physical examination is performed by a physician with specific training in the area of child sexual abuse.  After the interview, law enforcement and other team members take the appropriate actions.  Parents are provided with recommendations and information based on that interview.  The parents are encouraged to contact any of the team members with additional concerns or problems.

I.C.A.C. (Internet Crime Against Children) is a Task Force that has been put together to catch offenders who are using the internet to locate their next victims.
Law Enforcement goes on line in different chat rooms and pose as underage minors.  The internet and chat rooms are growing at an alarming rate and is mostly used for "hooking up".
The Task Force is also used for locating offenders who are dealing in child pornography.  The internet is the best way to locate child pornography and or pass it on to someone else who wants to view it.

If you have further questions please contact us.  We also do presentations to large groups of people to educate them on this ongoing problem.
