The Vehicle Burglary Section (VBS) of the Major Crimes Bureau is responsible for the investigation of vehicle burglaries within the city. Through the combined efforts of police, citizens, and city and county prosecutors, the VBS strives to identify those individuals committing vehicle burglaries and bring them before the criminal justice system.
The VBS is assigned one full-time detective with additional detectives available to assist as circumstances dictate. During the calendar year 2004, there were 1266 vehicle burglaries reported in the city of Ogden.
TIPS TO DETER VEHICLE BURGLARIES
Always lock your doors and roll up your windows.
If you have a garage or carport, use them. Avoid parking on the street.
Invest in motion lights and/or park your vehicle in well-lighted areas.
Remove valuables from your car when you leave it unattended.
When away from home lock valuables in the trunk of your car.
Do not keep an extra key in or around your vehicle.
Invest in an alarm system.
Always write down the model and serial numbers of your stereo equipment.
Participate in a neighborhood watch program.
Never leave your vehicle running while unattended, even if it’s just for a minute.
Avoid putting stickers on your windows advertising your stereo equipment.
Avoid playing your stereo loudly while driving in your neighborhood.
Report any suspicious activity or persons in your neighborhood to the police.
