Einstein the Ferret doesn't need to pack his bags and move afterall. In a recently adopted revised version of Ogden City's Animal Ordinance, City Council members approved several changes to the current ordinance, including the legalization of domesticated ferrets.

The Council requested a review of the ordinance as it related to ferrets last August after residents raised concerns that the law prohibiting ferrets was outdated. The Council adopted a temporary ordinance in September 2005, placing a moratorium on the enforcement of the prohibition against ferrets. That moratorium is now superseded by the amendments to the animal ordinance.
Bottom line - ferrets are welcome! (Just get their vacinations when they're three months old and don't have more than two of them.) Other info from this meeting included the following: a maximum of two dogs (over six months old), and no more than six cats over six months old (the maximum number of cats being reduced for each ferret or dog).
What about those Ogdenites who have more than six pets in their home? For those brave souls who currently have up to ten household animals, it's OK. The little critters can stay with you until they are relocated or until their demise (just get them licensed before June 1, 2006 so you can prove they are part of the family - in case you ever need to prove it).
