A Great Short Course with Wide Fairways
El Monte Golf Course is a nine-hole layout located at the mouth of beautiful Ogden Canyon. Featuring gentle terrain changes, mature trees, and outstanding greens, this secluded course is a long-time local favorite. A prominent feature on this course for more than 80 years is a pair of large Fremont cottonwood trees situated in the middle of the first fairway.
History and Legends
Open since 1931, El Monte offers historic charm steeped in tradition. The bungalow style, stone clubhouse was built during the Great Depression with funds from the Federal Emergency Relief Administration and is on the National Historic Register—one of only thirteen golf course properties in the country to have this designation. Stones were meticulously chosen and quarried from Ogden Canyon; the building was brilliantly situated to offer an imposing panorama of the mountain canyon and golf-filled valley below.
For its 75th anniversary, El Monte hosted a unique clinic with special guests World Golf Hall of Famer and PGA Tour star Johnny Miller along with John Geertsen Jr, a renowned golf instructor and son of El Monte’s first golf professional, John Geertsen Sr. The celebration was one of biggest events in Ogden golf history.
