St. Benedict's
REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT AREA #4 ST. BENEDICT'S
The St. Benedict's Redevelopment Project Area was formed in October 1981 to
encompass 250 acres. This Project Area was established to facilitate the completion
of two projects: 1) the renovation of the vacant former St. Benedict's Hospital
into a 100-unit apartment complex for the elderly and handicapped; and 2) the
development of the Mt. Ogden Park and Golf Course. Both projects have reached
fruition and have become valuable assets on the eastern edge of the City.
To initiate the St. Benedict's project Ogden City obtained a HUD Section 108
loan of $644,772, secured by future years' CDBG funds. The City loaned this
money to the RDA, which in turn provided it to Intermountain Development, the
developer of St. Benedict's Manor.
In addition, in 1986 tax increment was also used to pay the City a one-time
overhead and administration (O & A) fee of $83,215.80. The RDA repaid the
City in 1997.
This District is currently providing revenue to the RDA Housing Fund.
