[ARCHIVED] Ogden City Council adopts $165 million FY2018 Budget

FY2018 Ogden Budget Snapshot

The Ogden City Council adopted the FY2018 City Budget, following the August 8th Truth in Taxation hearing.

As part of this year’s budget, the Council approved a proposal to maintain the FY2017 property tax rate instead of adopting the lower certified tax rate. This produces 7.2% more revenue, enabling the City to begin to adjust for the impacts of three decades of inflation.

“Our City Administration has done an outstanding job throughout the years of stretching limited dollars while still providing exceptional service,” Council Chair Marcia White said. “However, City revenue has not kept up with inflation. This year’s budget approval process gave us an opportunity to closely evaluate the City’s needs and services and identify ways to fund them now and into the future.”

Other highlights of the FY2018 budget include step increases for public safety employees, merit increases for general employee salaries, and additional salary adjustments for those employed with the City during years that salary increases were foregone.

The budget also addresses the Council’s priorities of promoting active and healthy living, fostering neighborhoods and building community, developing multi-modal transportation options, enhancing community outreach and engagement, cultivating arts and culture, supporting public safety and other essential services, and ensuring fiscal sustainability and transparency.

Council members, acting as Redevelopment Agency (RDA) board members and Municipal Building Authority (MBA) trustees, have also adopted the FY2018 RDA Budget and FY2018 MBA Budget.

An overview of the approved budget, along with goals and guidelines, is available on the Council’s website (click here).

Additional Information:

The public had several opportunities to provide input on this year’s budget, including three public hearings and two Virtual Town Halls.
