New WaterSmart Program Helps Citizens Save Water and Money

Ogden City recently partnered with WaterSmart Software to offer residents a free digital portal to access detailed information about household water usage. This program can be viewed from a mobile device or web browser, and provides customized recommendations on how to save water and money based on the utility data collected every month. WaterSmart can be utilized in the following three steps.

  • Register for free. Citizens automatically have access to this program by signing on through the WaterSmart website with a current water bill account number and email address. After building a profile that reflects their current household size, water usage data will be collected that compares rates with similar households.
  • Access the program when paying the water bill and start tracking usage. A home screen appears on the program with options allowing citizens to view their current water bill, their current daily water use in gallons, their current water score and recommended actions to improve conservation. Notifications will also alert residents about high water bills or possible leaks.
  • Benefit from saving water on a daily basis. Citizens can track water usage by season, month, year or long term use comparisons. Graphs will clearly display what appliances in the house are using the most water. The “Take Action” function in WaterSmart will feed recommendations on saving water, including how much money will be saved over an annual period for specific practices, based on household usage.
