[ARCHIVED] Support Local Businesses during Road Construction in the Nine Rails Creative District

BZ 013121 OCA Gallery 01

The Ogden community is encouraged to support local businesses while several road construction projects are underway in the Nine Rails Creative District.

Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is currently making improvements to 25th Street between Washington Blvd. and Jefferson Ave. to support the new Ogden Express Bus Rapid Transit line (OGX). Ogden City is replacing waterlines in the area and is also making improvements to Ogden Ave. south of 25th Street.

Local businesses remain open during construction, including The Monarch, WB’s Eatery, Art Box, Ogden Contemporary Arts (OCA), The Lotus Café, Yoga Studio & Shop, Cuppa, and Thai Curry Kitchen. The community is encouraged to support these businesses – grab a bite to eat at WB’s, make a candle at Art Box, or take a yoga class at Lotus. The upcoming First Friday Art Strolls on May 6 and June 3 are another great opportunity to support local businesses and artists.

Parking and access to these businesses are available, as shown below.

Although 25th Street and the north end of Ogden Ave. are closed to through traffic, parking and business access remain available. For longer visits to The Monarch, WB’s Eatery, Art Box, and OCA, patrons can use the parking lot immediately west of the Peery Apartments (2461 Adams Ave). This lot can be accessed from both 24th Street and Adams Ave. From there, follow the pedestrian detour signs. Limited street parking on Ogden Ave., accessed from 26th Street, may be used for quick visits, drop-offs, and picking up food orders. Street parking is allowed on the east side of Ogden Ave., except where the curb is painted red. Additional parking options may be available for patrons of The Monarch, WB’s Eatery, Art Box, and OCA; please contact these businesses directly for more information. For Thai Curry Kitchen, Cuppa, and The Lotus Café, Yoga Studio & Shop, street parking is available on Adams and Jefferson Aves. Look for the directional signs for parking and pedestrian access.

UTA plans to pave and reopen 25th Street to vehicle traffic between Washington Blvd. and Adams Ave. by mid-June and between Adams and Jefferson Aves. by early July. Work on sidewalks and landscaping will continue beyond those dates. Ogden City intends to complete the improvements to Ogden Ave. by the end of July. A waterline replacement in 26th Street is also scheduled during this time, but travel will remain open in both directions.

The projects underway will improve access, activate, and beautify the Nine Rails Creative District. OGX is a Bus Rapid Transit line that will provide an environmentally friendly, electric bus connection from the Ogden FrontRunner Station, to downtown and Nine Rails, to Weber State University and McKay-Dee Hospital. OGX will run every 10-15 minutes on weekdays and fare will be free for the first three years. The OGX line will begin operating in fall 2023.

The improvements to Ogden Ave. will connect The Monarch and the Dumke Arts Plaza. Once complete, this portion of the street can be closed periodically to support special events and festivals, creating new opportunities for arts programming and other events in Nine Rails.
