1. How do I file for an expungement?: In order to begin the filing process for an expungement, you must first obtain a Certificate of Expungement Eligibility from Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI). You can contact BCI at 801-965-4445.

If you are eligible for an expungment, BCI will process your certificate. There is a cost for the certificate, BCI can give you that information.

You will then need to file the appropriate documents with the court. If you have questions about the forms, please contact the court. The documents can be found on the
Utah Courts website.

2. How much does an expungement cost?: The cost to file an expungement with the court is $135 per case. There will be an additional fees for copies.

3. How do I know in which court to file the expungment?: Your expungement should be filed in the proper jurisdiction, meaning, if your offense occurred in Ogden City, your expungement would be filed in the Justice Court if it was a misdemeanor, or in Second District Court if it was a felony matter. If the offense occurred in another city, you would need to file the expungement in the court of that city.
